"Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House"

For my dear Readers who love old black and white movies from the era of BA (Before Acting), you will remember the funny/sad/sick movie with Cary Grant and Myrna Loy, "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House".   Somehow this old movie rings a bell with us even though it was made 2 years after we were born!

Needless to say there have been a few times in the last year and a half that I have thought of Mr. and Mrs. Blandings.  Do watch the YouTube scenes and then I promise not to say another word...just add the photo below.

Here is a photo of our modern 'Mr. Blandings' making another forward step before we can complete our dream house.  Looked more like 2 steps backward when I peeked into the master bedroom where he was working on our new closet.

We will overcome!!

    1. And that was only the beginning...the drywallers start this week and it will be quite amazing to see what kind of dust they can invoke!

    1. It is, isn't it? We find that we take turns...loving it and holding it up!

  3. There is a lot of love going into the making of our new closet.

Sorry about all the dust, but there is nothing I can think of to do about it. If I could find a solution to that one... dustless drywall sanding.... that would revolutionize the whole construction industry.

  4. That is a very cool pic of Pa.

In your opinion, are all old movies BA? Just curious. I can see how some people might think so, but I thought you were more of a fan. I certainly have a greater appreciation, since viewing more B&Ws with my dearest... maybe my eyes have been romantically clouded!!

    1. Truly, no offense intended. We do love the old B&W movies, warts and all. That is a phrase your Pa uses to tease me about my penchant for curling up in bed with popcorn or tea and watching to my heart's content.

Actually, I read an article some time ago regarding the movie industry and they do pinpoint a movie and a date when acting 'grew up'. I believe it was "Hud"...have to look it up again.

For some time now I have subscribed to a design blog named "Mrs. Blandings". That name sounded so familiar but I couldn't remember where I had met up with it before. This past week I remembered the old movie. Isn't that a clever name for a design blog.
