Five on Friday

“Live your life so that the fear of death can never enter your heart. When you arise in the morning, give thanks for the morning light. Give thanks for your life and strength. Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living. And if perchance you see no reason for giving thanks, rest assured the fault is in yourself.” - Ascribed to Chief Tecumseh

Another week is coming to a close and it seems a good time to sit back and say thankyou.

Tonight I am thankful for my beautiful new begonias. There is a marvelous spot for them right at the front entry so we delight in the blooms coming and going…

Tonight I am thankful for the blue skies we have seen this week. So clear and so welcome! Brings to mind this favorite ...

Blue skies
Smilin’ at me
Nothing but blue skies
Do I see.

Blue birds
Singin’ a song
Nothing but blue birds
All day long.

Blue days
All of them gone
Nothing but blue skies
From now on.

Tonight I am thankful for my walks here on the island. The silence is heavy and even though we have lived here for 8 years the walks never grow old. There is always a treasure around the corner.

Tonight I am thankful for Time…each day is precious, and I value all the ideas that come to me to fill each day. Truly I could use 48 hours each day and still not come to a wall of boredom.

“The days come and go like muffled and veiled figures sent from a distant friendly party, but they say nothing, and if we do not use the gifts they bring, they carry them as silently away.” –Ralph Waldo Emerson

And tonight I am thankful for my cousin, Jeanne. She and I went our separate ways after high school leading busy lives with husbands, children and what not. Now we have time and closer proximity so we can see one another and catch up for all the missed years. She has a soft and gentle nature that is a good influence.

“I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read and all the friends I want to see.” – John Burroughs

  1. I know why our daughter is always so grateful... the fruit doesn't falls far from the tree. In my whole life I have never seen anyone more consistently thankful and encouraging than my sweet wife. Shirley, you are the best partner! A true Good Finder... unceasingly grateful.
