The Frog

My grandchildren will all attest to the fact that their Grandma likes frogs, no, loves frogs and takes good care of frogs.  They have all seen me gather a little frog in my hand and then show them the delicate details of the frog's appearance.

This past week I have had two short encounters with frogs here on the island.  This first photo is how we usually see them...little and green and mixed in among the plants.

The next two photos will show you one of our little green frogs trying desparately to fit into his unusual environment.  Now, I did not realize that these frogs would change colour if they had to.  I had never seen an almost black frog before.

Can you see him there?  Here, take a closer look!

You can even see his footprints on the dusty old mailbox at the front door!

In honor of our 'littlest' pets I found this great poem.

The Frog

Be kind and tender to the Frog,
And do not call him names,
As "Slimy skin," or "Polly-wog,"
Or likewise "Ugly James,"
Or "Gap-a-grin," or "Toad-gone-wrong,"
Or "Bill Bandy-knees":
The Frog is justly sensitive
To epithets like these.

No animal will more repay
A treatment kind and fair;
At least so lonely people say
Who keep a frog (and, by the way,
They are extremely rare).

-Hilaire Belloc

Be thankful for the little things in life that bring you joy!
