End of the Week Thankfulness

Here we are, wending our way home via Galiano Island.  Now, for those of you who haven't traversed these waters much, we have to go past our island to reach Galiano and then come back to Mayne.  They cannot hear us softly yelling, that is our island, just stop and let us off.  No, they chug on by and so the trip home tonight is long.

But I am thankful for the ferries that ferry us back and forth, to and fro on the face of our part of the earth.

I am so thankful that it is Friday night.  Yes, I know, I don't have schedules and clients and appointments that drive me through the week but still I long for Friday night.  Friday night means peace and quiet in my soul if no where else.  Friday night means I can stop still and know that others stop still and wait for grace.

Tonight I am very thankful for the yummy food that we enjoyed for our dinner out in town at The Black Olive.  They have a good cook, lovely ambience and tonight we enjoyed a sweet little Irish lass as our waiter.  She was very pleasant, has only been in Victoria for 3 weeks but is finding it somewhat more hospitable (weather-wise) than Calgary where she landed 5 months ago.

Anyway, I was saying I am so thankful for the food.  My appetizer was brie cheese melted in a phyllo pastry roll on a bed of greens with blueberries.  It was so delightful I should have ordered 3 of them and called it dinner.  But no, I had a lamb shank with mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables.  And to top it all off, I ended with a decadent chocolate cake in a berry coulis and topped with whipped cream.

Sounds very celebratory, doesn't it?  What could we be celebrating in February?  Maybe we (as in me) (and probably he too) are celebrating surviving a long winter.

Tonight I am thankful for the blessings of children and grandchildren who never cease to delight me with their creativity in thought and action.  It is just a joy to watch what they all do.  This past week on my 365 Project I posted a photo of Lucy watching her Zune at our house last weekend.  Loved the comments I received from people who do not know me but comment on my photos.

Which leads me to another thankful moment.  I am very thankful my daughter suggested the 365 project for me to enter and thankful that I picked up on it and have met and enjoyed so many new people.  If you have a moment you can see what I do there and if you badger around you will see the absolutely marvelous photography that is happening on that site from people all over the world.

And if you are so inclined you can join in any time through the year and start your own project.  It requires a certain discipline to post a photo every day but the blessing far outweighs the time spent.

Tonight I am going to post on '365' a photo I took back in 2005 of my dear little Mexican friend, Scruffie, who gave me much joy and delight.  I still believe the Lord sent him to my door to help me through four winters.  He was a dear little fellow and for all the memories of him and our time together I am truly thankful.

There is no thankfulness list ever that is complete without my husband.  Do you realize that this coming October we will have been well acquainted for 49 years?  Actually October 20, 1962 is the date of our first 'date'.  And where he is, it is home.  For that I am thankful.

As the week closes over the next 24 what do you find to be particularly thankful for?  Where is your list?  Be well and God bless.

  1. What a joy to be part of a mutual admiration society with my wife.

    Here is my grateful list:
    - for my sweetheart. I am so delighted at how much she has grown artistically in the past couple of years in both photography and painting
    - for good times together. We enjoy our daily walks, working together and even though she usually beats me in bowling on the Wii I admire her skill
    - for my family, each one is precious
    - for our son and his family who came home last weekend. Great visit
    - for our home... every day I thank the Lord for this wonderful spot where we live and we had nothing to do with picking this place. He picked it for us
    - for my new MacBook... which I just set up with Windows 7 in a separate partition and will once again be able to trade stocks on my new laptop when I am not at home. Plus I still can do all the cool things that Apple is famous for with photos, slideshows, movies etc. so I now have the best of both worlds
    - for the internet where we have access to answers to all of life's questions just a click away. Is that cool or what?
    - for victory over a stump. I persevered all day Monday to remove a stump beside the driveway near our gate. By removing one root at a time could finally pull the big thing out
    - for our wood stove in the kitchen. I really enjoy the wood heat and when it is chilly outside, like last night... I kept it stoked all night
    - for old friends found again. This week I talked to a couple old friends that we have not be in contact with for decades. That was fun
    - all the things I am grateful for pale in comparison to my sweetheart... and that is why this list starts and ends with Shirley.

  2. One of the things I am most thankful for is all the wonderful blogs by all of the Goerlitz family--I so enjoy reading everyone's thoughts and of course all the wonderful photos--I spend my Saturday mornings catching up on your lives. Thank you all so much for sharing.
