A Thought on Thursday

Truly, Thursday is not the only day of the week that I think, though some may argue otherwise, but I like to wonder out loud sometimes, hoping for some insight from all of you thoughtful people.

This morning I read the question, 'What will be your legacy?'  That is a good place to set a spell and think.

Legacy:  my dictionary says it can be 1. money or property handed down in a will or 2.  something handed down from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past.

So, what is it that I can hand down to my children, their children and their grandchildren?  Maybe I should start with a eulogy and then go on to the reading of the will.  All pretend, you understand.  (Too much Michael Palin lately!)

When I begin to think of it I wonder if what I want to hand on or what I value is of any significance to later generations.  What could I say or give that would be relevant in their lives?

What is it that I love most that may appeal to them?

-  books and reading
-  flowers
-  order and  beauty around me
-  creativity
-  good music
-  love of a job well done
-  activity whether it be running, walking, sports
-  making friends/keeping friends
-  but most of all, above all else, I want to tell the succeeding generations that God is love, He is there and He is not silent...

God's peace is joy resting; His joy is peace dancing.

So, tell me, what does a legacy mean to you?  What do you think is most relevant to hand on to our children?

  1. Interesting that you should post on this. I recently read an article on "Ethical Wills -- Love Letters to Your Family." Take a look and see what you think.
