Simply Sajuaro Sabbath

It seems we cannot get enough of the sunshine, blue sky and heat...the natives tell us that we are getting better than usual December weather this year but the Lord knows we were ready for this.

The photo in my header is the view as I got out of Lorne's car today headed out for a hike in Sajuaro National Park.

What a lovely walk we had.  Sherwin, Lorne and I had a great time catching up as we enjoyed the beauty of the desert all around us.  Gail stayed behind nursing her wounded knee.

We were careful to walk a straight line and not fall off the path!

"You can't fight the desert...
you have to ride with it."
-Louis L'Amour

The cowboys and girls say they carry pliers with them to remove thorns from the horses feet...ouch!

We were all taken with the extraordinary beauty and symmetry of the plants along the trail.

Even the aged sajuaros had a certain charm...we half expected to see vultures sitting on this old and rugged specimen.

Close-up in the shade you get a little different perspective of the serious equipment these plants are born with.

And being Sabbath and all, we noticed the choir gathered to sing...

Wish we could have captured the Huge Jack Rabbit we saw ...he was too fast for the photographers in our group.  His ears far outsized his skinny body and legs ...fun to watch.

"If you don't die of thirst , there are blessings in the desert.  You can be pulled into limitlessness, which we all yearn for, or you can do the beauty of minutiae, the scrimshaw of tiny and precise.  The sky is your ocean, and the crystal silence will uplift you like great gospel music, or Neil Young."
-Anne Lamott
