Winter is the Best Time
by David Budbill

Winter is the best time
to find out who you are.

Quiet, contemplation time,
away from the rushing world,

cold time, dark time,
holed-up pulled-in time and space

to see that inner landscape,
that place hidden and within.

Tell me, what is it that you like about winter?  What is your method of coping with the dark time of the year?   How do you make the time move forward when it feels otherwise?

  1. I saw that poem today as well, and liked it. Good thoughts... I do like the coziness of winter, but you know I am not a big fan of the darkness. The fireplace helps, a lot. And soup. And hot chocolate.

    1. Thanks for your winter solutions. What would we do without our little wood stove, I do not know. We are considering putting in a little Jotel upstairs to warm the studio too.

Both Sherwin and I see and count the minute changes every day after December 21 when the days do start to get longer. We are so happy to see light earlier in the morning and we love to be able to be outdoors working later too. The men who have travelled and explored the Poles go without daylight for about 2 months in the winter. How dreadful that would be.
